Another season of mountain biking in the Valley will be soon be upon us!  We are planning a season kickoff party with the help of our friends at The Rack to usher in a summer of dry trails, sunny weather and miles of riding!  The Rack, a pile of mountain bikers of all ages, a little swag, good laughs; what else do you really need to know?  More details will be coming soon!  We hope you’ll join us with your family and friends.

MCNEMBA 6 Pack Trail Series

MCNEMBA 6 Pack Trail Series sponsored by the Drouthy Bear Pub.

Sessions are from 9am-1pm followed by a happy hour at the Drouthy Bear. We'll be working on the Rollins/Goose River trails this Saturday. Some tools will be supplied.

Work will mostly involve clearing debris from the trails and improving drainage where needed. We'll have some tools available, though bring along a rake (leafblowers are helpful), and a handsaw if you have em. We'll meet at the Snow Bowl tobogganville parking area at 9am and go from there..

This course is perfect for riders, trail enthusiasts, land stewards and land managers interested in learning about what makes for sustainable, enjoyable trails and how to take care of them.

The course will include classroom presentations on the best practices of trail building and maintenance in the morning, followed by hands-on trail building clinics in the afternoon.

Coffee, snacks and lunch will be included, and there will also be an option to purchase IMBA's trailbuilding textbook, IMBA Trail Solutions.

The cost is $20.  Please bring a check for $40 if you wish to purchace IMBA's book, Trail Solutions: IMBA's Guide to Building Sweet Singletrack.

The course will take place in Auburn, and we'll be doing the hands-on clinics at Mt. Apatite.

Save the date (September 26, 2020) for our Carrabassett Adventure Ride (part of the New England Mountain Bike Association‘s Kona MTB Adventure Series) and CRNEMBA Party at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center in Carrabassett Valley, Maine.  Ride the epic trails of the Carrabassett Valley trail network during beautiful fall foliage.

Riders of all abilities are welcome and invited.   There will be guided rides for all levels.    Ride guides will show you the trail system with riders of similar ability with an emphasis on having fun and connecting with fellow riders.

We invite you to the Carrabassett Adventure Ride (part of the New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA)'s Kona MTB Adventure Series) on Saturday, September 28, at the Sugarloaf Outdoors Center in Carrabassett Valley, Maine. Come ride the epic trails of the Carrabassett Valley trail network during peak foliage. Join us for riding fun followed by complimentary beverages (for folks ages 21+) courtesy of Baxter Brewing Co. as well as burgers and hot dogs. We’d welcome anyone bringing along a potluck side to add to the feast. We hope you’ll stay for our informal annual meeting. 

Riders of all abilities are welcome and invited. There will be guided rides (see details below) as well as self-guided routes clearly marked for those who wish to venture on their own. Ride guides will show you the trail system with riders of similar ability with an emphasis on having fun and connecting with fellow riders.

Anyone with or without a bike, from the Valley or beyond, and current NEMBA members and soon to be members who want to be introduced to the trail network and CRNEMBA, to just ride the trails, or most importantly, to have some fun!

Bike rentals are available at Allspeed Cyclery & Snow (located at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center).

Expect the party to begin when you return from your afternoon ride, about 4:00ish, with complimentary beverages. Grilling of hot dogs and burgers will begin as soon as folks are ready to eat! Food will be available at the Sugarloaf Outdoors Center, again free to all riders and guests. Potluck is welcomed. 

Please join us for an informal meeting with CRNEMBA Board members to learn what we are doing, our relationship with the Carrabassett Valley Trails, and to ask questions and share your hopes and wants for CRNEMBA.

Registration will be available at the Sugarloaf Outdoors Center, beginning at 9:00 AM. Each rider will be required to sign a liability waiver. 

- CRNEMBA or NEMBA members from any other chapter: $10/person suggested donation.

- Non-members: $25/person

- Renewing or joining NEMBA the day of the event: Free
(New Chapter Memberships: $35/individual; $45/family)

- Kids ages 15 and under: Free with a registered parent or guardian.

The goal for this event includes a celebration of our bike community and further recruitment of members. As is always the practice for CRNEMBA, financial proceeds will be directed towards further development of CRNEMBA and the trail system we are creating with our partners.

The Youth Explorer Mountain Bike Program is a FUN summer activity.   Kids of all ages and experience levels enjoy group rides, basic riding instruction and an introduction to our local trail system.  Most sessions end up with a swim in Hosmer pond to cool off…and wash off the dirt.

Sugarloaf Fat Tire Festival

Presented by Sugarloaf and supported by Carrabassett Region NEMBA and Maine Huts & Trails

Building on the success of last year's event, Sugarloaf is hosting the 2nd annual Fat Tire Festival on February 6 and 7, 2016. There will be a three-part on-snow race held on Saturday morning, a dual-slalom race Saturday evening, and a Frozen-Fattie guided group ride on Sunday. There will also be demo bikes and guided rides during the day on Saturday and a Fat Tire Festival party Saturday night at the Widowmaker with prizes, movies and music.
There will be a pre-festival event held on Friday evening at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM so participants can pick up their registration packets. There will be a fire, hot drinks and the trails will be marked for evening/night riding from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM so bring your bikes and headlamps!

Fat Tire Race
The highlight of this Fat Tire event will be a three-part on-snow race that will feature racers riding UP the boardwalk trail and DOWN through the banked-slalom course back to the finish and festival area. The race will then head OVER to the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center for the final leg. The race will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Sugarloaf Ski Resort and will start at 7:00 AM from the resort base area. This is an open age group race limited to 100 riders with awards going to the fastest women and men shortly after the race is complete.

Dual Slalom, Single Elimination Race
The dual slalom race will be held on the Birches trail just below the base lodge on Saturday evening, February 6 at 6:00 PM (registration from 4:45 to 5:45 in the base lodge). Entry fee for the race is just $5!
Fat Tire Festival Party
Join us at the Widowmaker in the Sugarloaf base lodge for the first annual Fat Tire Festival Party. There will be music, videos, prizes and lots of fat bike talk.
Frozen Fattie Adventure Ride
This event will take place Sunday, February 7 and feature a longer ride to one of Maine Huts & Trails huts where a hearty lunch will be served and where riders can rest and warm up before the return trip. This is a guided ride for the fit and hearty. The exact location and route will be determined as snow conditions evolve so check back for updates.

At 750 acres Range Ponds State Park offers a sandy beach and over two miles of family friendly walking trails. In the eastern end of the park Central Maine NEMBA and local mountain bikers are working with the State to build a really fun network of mountain bike trails. 8 miles of trails have now been completed with more on the way. You'll note that there are two maps above. The Strava map show the frequency with which the trails are ridden as well as a trail leading out to an alternative starting area on Empire Road.

Range Ponds State Park is open from may 15th to October 1st but visitors are invited to park outside the gate in the off season to ski, hike or ride. just don't block the road.
