Description
At 562 acres the Chicopee Memorial State park has a lot to offer.
There are over 20 miles of trails and roadways as well as a 25 acre former reservoir where you can swim.
The DCR charges $8 to park here in season.
Formerly called the Cooley Brook Reservoir, the State took it over in the 1960s and converted it into a recreation area.
Riding here is lots of fun. The trails are sometimes very scenic and sometimes challenging, but mostly enjoyable for riders of all ability levels.
This is one of the few areas in Central Massachusetts that lacks rocks poking out of the trails.
It's a great place for a family ride.
The Trail Forks map above does a great job of assigning difficulty levels to the trails.
However, ride here and you'll find many more short, busy singletracks that are not on the map.
Located just off the Massachusetts Turnpike and between Chicopee and Springfield the park is a very popular place for locals as well as being convenient for visitors.
You may see and hear planes landing and taking off from the Westover Air Reserve Base that abuts the park. One of the trails on the northern side of the park actually runs along the fenceline surounding the airstrip.
