South Bath Logging Update - All Trails Open
The South end trail network in Bath has seen its share of logging lately. While the network includes property owned by the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust (KELT), the trails also make use of some private lands. One of the larger properties, close to the Hyde School, extending from Hight Street all the way to the Lilly Pond was logged this year, causing significant damage to old time classics G1 and G2 as well as the more technical Deliverance. Over the course of the summer Six Rivers NEMBA in cooperation with some dedicated volunteers has worked to clean up the mess and make the trails rideable again. G2 and Deliverance were put back together fairly quickly, but the damage to G1 was much more extensive. Finally in September, after much work, G1 was also open again. There is still some work planned, but reports so far are that it is riding better than ever. The “B-line” that goes around the steep rock roller still needs to be revived so it’s best to ride counter-clockwise for now, but otherwise it’s in great condition.
