Fall Trail Cleanup Recap
Our annual Fall Trail Cleanup took place this past Sunday, November 30th, and what a day it was! The morning kicked off with a light dusting of early snow, adding a wintery spark to the start of the work session before melting into a perfect cool-weather cleanup day. More than two dozen volunteers spread out across four trail systems—South Bath/Lily Pond, North Bath/Whiskeag, Neptune Woods, and Topsham Ponds—to rake, lop, haul, repair, and refresh our local singletrack before winter truly sets in. Rain, snow, or shine, our crew showed up ready to work, and the results speak for themselves.
Topsham Ponds
The Topsham team went big this year. Volunteers cleared roots, lopped overgrowth, and repaired an eroded section, restoring a smoother and more sustainable corridor. A new small rock roll was added as well—an unexpected but welcome bonus that’s sure to make riders smile.
Neptune Woods
Neptune volunteers absolutely crushed it. The trails were fully blown clear, removing layers of pine needles and leaves to prep the system for winter riding. A long-problematic spot received major attention: an aging bridge was removed and the area filled, resolving a persistent trail issue and improving both flow and safety.
Whiskeag / North Bath
Up at Whiskeag, the crew focused on structural improvements. They raised and lengthened a bridge to keep it high and dry through the wet months and lopped roots that had begun creeping into the ride line. These updates will go a long way toward keeping the trail network welcoming through freeze–thaw season.
South Bath / Lily Pond
At Lily Pond, teams put in plenty of classic fall work—raking, clearing sticks, and reopening lines—but also tackled bigger improvements. One group revived the go-around for the one-way steep roller on G1 and continued dialing in more G1 enhancements in the slash areas. Another crew hauled straight logs from the Evahroney slash and staged them on Herbs for future bridge stringers—a key step in improving the wet sections where long planks currently sit.
Community + Pizza = The Perfect Finish
After hours of hard work, volunteers gathered for some well-earned post-cleanup pizza and trail talk at the Cabin Restaurant in Bath. As always, the mix of familiar faces and new volunteers made the day feel like a community celebration as much as a work event.
